Marie Gabrielle

This week my art class were  inspired by Marie Gabrielle's images:

 Born in Paris France  1951
 Education: Lyon France, textile design
Colourist for high fashion textile creator Bianchini Ferier
 Moved to the States1975
 First watercolour class1983
 First Gallery show1988
Marie Gabrielle works in watercolour, creating active illustrative landscapes and dynamic floral compositions. Her technique is confident and highly developed. Her palette is unabashed, artfully balanced, and rich in colour. Marie's love for her subject matter shows clearly in her work. Every element of a scene is carefully rendered, with special attention to the shapes, details, and interrelationships of her subjects.

Combining Charcoal with Watercolour

This week, my art classes were combining watercolour with charcoal. This is an old idea which was used by the illustrators in the early 20th century. Jessie Wilcox Smith used it in her amazing illustrations for Ladies Home Journal.
We were painting from life using some flowering plants.

Next week we will be working with watercolour paint.
